Feeding Wild Birds...As you no doubt have discovered, an internet search for "what to feed wild birds" or "bird food recipes for wild birds" offers a mind-boggling array of information. What it all boils down to is, basically... which birds do you want to attract? So, let's get started. How do you decide which birds you want? You probably have favorites... but, remember to consider the time of year and your geographic location. In fact, you can probably entice a huge variety of wild birds, regardless of the season, just by following these guidelines. Wild bird food recipe...So, why not make your own birdseed mix? Here is a terrific wild bird food recipe (courtesy of the Cornell University Ornithology Lab):
Just make sure to store your "personalized" mix in a dry, cool place in a rodent-proof, metal container. Check the seed often for signs of mold... it can sicken birds. Discard any moldy seed where birds and rodents can't get to it. That's all there is to it! Acknowledgements: |
